Sure, there are some academics like that. But I think you'll find, on the whole, that academics have an appreciation for their field and for the *limits* of their knowledge. (Except, of course, when students challenge them, which is another story...j/k :p) Again, true that some academics...

Would you care to support those statements with some hard evidence? My career prospects lie largely in academia and research, and I *know* people work extremely hard in my fields. Take away the academics with their so-called "useless studies" and you have policy-making with a lot less information.
