    oday

OK guys, anyone join debsoc? I was there most of the day convincing people to join, and getting buzzed on those coffee drinks. Man they were good stuff!

why does everyone keep saying that communications is shit?

Not everyone around here hated communications, it just has to be what you want to do...and if it turns out it isn't, then you can always transfer to a different course after a year, and chalk it up to experience. I think the best summing up of the advice from both those of us who love it and...

    Enrollment Day

I don't know which building you're going to, but if it's raining just take an umbrella for the maybe 2 minutes max you'll be in the rain...the city campus is practically at central, catching a bus would take longer than walking (and you'd probably get just as wet)!

If nothing else, a free lunch:)

I have Absolutely No Idea how to do this!

It's nothing to stress about, you only have to present one tutorial for each subject, usually starting from abut week 3/4, and in groups of 2-3. My tip is to do it at the start of semester, most tutors (and fellow students) will then be very easy on you for having the courage to go first. Also...

I have Absolutely No Idea how to do this!

Go for the tut straight after the lecture, the only week you may possibly want more time is the week you are presenting the tutorial, but the other 12 or so weeks you'll be happy to get it out of the way...and I probably shouldn't be saying this, but you *think* you'll be reading your lecture...

The best Lecturers and Tutorial teachers - Communications

I don't think you'll get to see the staff before you enroll. If you get a crap tutor then you'll deal with it just like everyone else. Stop stressing, second year and above are living proof that you can survive the tutorial from hell! Besides, even if you knew the names, how would you know...

I have Absolutely No Idea how to do this!

no, that's the hours for first year communications...this year I have 9 hours a week. Yes, a whole *9* hours. I'm not sure how I'll fit everything in:p

    cut offs came crashing down!

Exactly...UTS gives us a lot of opportunities to get experience and build up a portfolio/resume/whatever, but ultimately it's up to you to take them. There's plenty of experience (for whatever degree you do) to be had if you look for it, not just directly through the faculty but through various...

ARTS and arts in social inquiry

Digital media and whatever would have to be done as an elective, so I guess if you devoted all your electives (providing you're doing straight SI and get electives every semester) to that sorta stuff you could probably get a job...but as you can probably imagine, our social/political/historical...

Communication: Info management or Social Inquiry?

I'm not really sure how easy/hard it is to transfer, but I think you have to wait till the end of first year - it's only one subject different each semester anyway for first year, it's not like a whole different course you're missing out on!

ARTS and arts in social inquiry

OK, answers to a number of questions in no particular order: A lot of SI students combine with law, personally I'm planning on doing it when I finish my SI degree, but that's a whole different story:) I think the theory is that combining with law makes the degree more 'useful', but bviously...

Arts in Comm - Social Inquiry

*shrugs* Cutoffs were steadily increasing for the communications courses until last year they freakishly (and unexpectedly) went down. Your guess is as good as mine, basically.

ARTS and arts in social inquiry

In social inquiry, we learn a lot about research methods and such...for example, the major project for Intro to SI is a 'participant observation', where you have to observe an event and analyse it and such. In second semester we learned about using statistics, ethnography, polling and the like...

NOW, I need all the help I can get

That question is the running joke of first year, because no-one can give you a straight answer. Beyond that, there's a thread. I could link to it, but I'm too lazy. Also I am too lazy to answer questions I already answered in that thread. Yep, I'm an arts student alright:p

B Arts in Sport and Exercise Management

This course isn't run by the humanities faculty...I think you might want to try business, if I recall correctly...we're all communications students around here:)

ARTS and arts in social inquiry

Read the course outline a little closer:) In 3rd year of social inquiry you get the option to do a professional placement or parliamentary placement (this one is limited to 10 places, but to my knowledge this limit isn't placed on professional placements). The parliamentary placement was one of...
