    Essay Plan

Essay plans can pretty much be structured however you like, as long as it outlines your intentions for your project in some way. I generally go with subheadings under which go a series of dot-points (with further evidence/quotes as further indented dot points). If your tutor specifies some sort...

    Power and Change Q

Most things should come with a resubmission option if you manage to fail...check your subject outline, it knows everything:)

    I'm taking a Creative approach

Well, yes, I do think insanity would be a prerequisite for choosing to devote your life to cultural studies:p Thus I always found 2am a great time to work on killer Contemporary Cultures assignments. It's all in the detachment from reality...Although the trick is to appear serious and meaningful...

    I'm taking a Creative approach

For CC2, one of my slightly artsy friends threw paint on a blanket or somesuch and explained how it was a representation of a landscape. It got a HD. For CC1 I wrote a documentary script sorta thing about westies, complete with fake latin words. My tutor loved it to bits. I think he woulda...

    Power and Change Q

Generally your bibliography is alphabetical by author's surname. check out the BELL site for the handy dandy bibliography guide, i recommend printing a copy to keep near your computer because you'll never remember all the formatting right! That said, that Power and Change assignment is a bit...

    Power and Change Q

I was going to post mine but then I can't find it to remember if I did well in it or not...which I think I did, but it was so long ago and I don't want to lead you guys in the wrong direction:p So just look at Soma's, I'm sure it's great!

Calling all male uni students who have the time...

As are the vast majority of communications students, sadly enough for us girls...

    How was your first day?

You're in lectures with exactly the same people every day. Just sit next to a random lonely-looking person and say hi, or else strike up a conversation in a tutorial. UTS communications students have the friend-making thing so easy compared to courses where there's lecture halls full of 600...

    Tell me about UTS!

But I seriously don't recommend it on a full stomach. It very nearly ended messily:p

    Tell me about UTS!

I don't know what subjects you were looking at, but my subjects for this semester are $600-ish each, arts subjects are generally in the lowest fee band...And as a non-SI student, please don't be knocking my degree too harshly, only I who have done the subjects may mock their apparent irrelevance:)

    tutorial presentation advice?

She seems nice at first, but after a semester I learned to dislike her severely. And yes, she is a boring, boring lecturer. And a boring talker in tutorials. And I could go on about my combined hatred for CIE and her, but I won't:) And John Carr rocks my socks. He's so my stereotypical...

    tutorial presentation advice?

Sorta, but sitting in a big circle and asking questions of an unwilling group is less fun than poking yourself in the eye with a rusty nail. Try splitting the group up, at least to start with, and then have each group report back. Only dealing with half a class could be better than leading...

    tutorial presentation advice?

The only exception to this rule that I know of is Sue Burgess, who I know to have failed at least one group in first semester last year, and she came perilously close to failing mine. And she gave no feedback on assignments either, just crappy marks. Not that I'm bitter:p But yeah, well said...

    tutorial presentation advice?

Showing parts of movies is always good for CC1/2. If you get the flaneur week, take your tut group out for a walk. If you get something that has an obvious fun activity attached to it, go for it. Last year I heard of tut groups dancing, making up their own hip hop rhymes, pitching ideas for...

    About Library Tutorials next week

Get used to the wank. There will be constant wankiness. You will become desensitised to it over the course of the year, and begin to think that there may be some educational value in Tony Mitchell's 63rd lecture on Australian hip hop:p And get used to quantitative and qualitative, they're you're...

    Today - Faculty Info

And I always find it amusing that, due to the pub being directly across from the tower, we choose to risk our lives crossing Broadway rather than waste critical boozing time to walk to one of the two crossings within 100m. The things we do for alcohol... Yes. Well done! Although they'll drill...

    Today - Faculty Info

We got the same sort of advice, but let me disillusion you all a little... Hell yes, even on those days when you feel like you'll melt, they keep the lecture theatres (espcially the big one in building 4) a nice chilly 16 degrees or something...I think it's an attempt to keep us awake:p...

    oday

This year we have internals on Monday nights, regionals (informal tournament between the unis around Sydney) are at Sydney uni on Wednesday nights, and tournaments basically occur in semseter/mid-semester breaks. We have Westers (Easters in WA) , Australasians (July, Queensland), Womens (can't...

    oday

Yay, we have debaters! I don't remember anyone's name that I talked to:) But I was wearing a green singlet and quite possibly bouncing from caffiene over-consumption, so you may have talked to me or seen me. Anyone else noice the 'do not consume more than 2 cans per day' warning on the coffee...
