1. Certain students over-do themselves in Prelim.undalay said:
2. Non-bothered (but naturally smart) students see the other students working hard.
3. Non-bothered students think, 'Oh crud, I should start working.'
4. Non-bothered students start to surpass the over-working students.
5. Over-working Prelim students start to burn out during HSC year.
...and you get the rest.
However, I know some people that have always been in the top.

Bio I was 3X or so, and after half yearlies HSC I got rank 5. I'm certain it dropped though.
I THINK that it should be changed to...
"Every1 who came top 5 in beginning of HSC year is not coming top 5 anymore end of hsc." xD
Because I'm screwing up everything I aced in HSC year xD

Um...I was 9th in Extension out of 50 last year and 3rd in maths but that was when I was doing Year 9, 10 and 11 at the same time basically because I was not one of the original accelerants. (I was initially rejected because I was a new kid at school)undalay said:

To rephrase:
The majority of top 5 in prelim have not maintained their top 5 status.
I would have thought that they would be able to continue their amazing run in year 11 to year 12.

Not always the case though. Many do of course, but some tend to think 'oh wow, im so smart, i can afford to kick back a bit this year' whereas others realise that they need to put in a whole lot more effort. The result, the people who work harder get better results. That's really what it all comes down to.lyounamu said:

Eh, I've held first in all my subjects since the prelim.
Of course, after the trials of all my year, I'm the one who's crashed the hardest.

might just be a case where the students who topped in prelim...were natrually smart?? and therefore..didn't hav to work too hard to get to top..and just didn't put in the extra work other students did as we entered into HSC yr?
there's lots of reasons why it would've happened...
@my school...the top...are still at the top xD tho everyone's marks hav gone up at least bit (in most areas)

ohh yeaa as long as i dont get sick in yr 12 like i did this year
missed 2 weeks of school and study which killed my grades.
