I concur. I'd suggest looking at Jasc Paint Shop Pro also, if you're planning to draw the animations since they can work in tandom. If you want something a bit more upmarket Adobe Freehand/Photoshop and whatnot are also good for the drawing aspect.

But, if you're just animating anything simple, Animation Shop has all the basic features to do that =]

i tried gif...fairly lossy output i hate obviously grainy images
