Lists like these are useful, but don't forget that the shops (and a large number of them) are within walking distance; a large amount of what's on this list will be purchasable fairly easily, so don't fret if you don't have the space/weight allowance/etc to bring everything.

Bruce Hall allows kettles in rooms if they have an automatic cut-off (which is pretty much all electric kettles i've seen).

I reckon the only thing UL suffers from is youth. Once it becomes more established and the people there start knowing what to do, it can only get better.
I was at the front office at bruce to pick up a package, and saw some room allocations/re-allocations going on. There may have been some mix-up or something that may delay Bruce offers.
It should be on the 14th of February this year (saturday before orientation week) for first years, and the later years would be coming in before the 23rd (first day of term), although many later years would be arriving in time for o-week also.
It's not crucial, as there are many computers on campus. That said, having your own is a big plus (for reasons already stated), and it will be an extension of your personal space (which may help you settle in).

nah i clean them myself. i'm in the self catered wing of Bruce Hall (the packard wing) which are like studio units.
allocations are based on seniority and demand is very high, so that usually means you'd have to be in your 3rd year to even have a chance of getting in.
