The main reason why byron is better than gold coast is the gold coast is over policed and byron is really laid back. It's an excellent place for schoolies. The only destination I'd put ahead of byron is the whitsundays.

Week three is great if you are going with a group of friends, but there aren't many other schoolies in week three, it's a bit of a marketing gimmick.

Noosa is great for schoolies. You will probably find yourself heading to Mooloolaba a few nights because that's where the larger gathering of schoolies are on the sunshine coast. Have you been to Noosa before? Fishing is great there also.

Accommodation doesn't run out, you could book the day before and get a place. And totally agree with SpAzTiC... other destinations are better. Whitsundays if you are gonna be under 18, and or Byron Bay if you are gonna be over 18.
