You have a choice between a certain English subject or a certain Linguistics subject.
With arts/sci you're going to have to do 12cp of maths/stats anyway (twice what you have to do in Liberal Studies.) And remember, you choose which maths subjects you want to do.
I'm currently doing HSC Maths Ext 1 with OTEN and I'm severely behind in my assignments. It's really hard to stay motivated and get stuff done - go for it if you think you can keep your mind on it but otherwise you're better off attending a TAFE college.
B Liberal Studies here, taking it easy in first year.
Semester 1:
ENGL1000 University English (6 CP)
LNGS1005 Structure of English (6 CP)
SOFT1001 Software Development 1 (6 CP)
Semester 2:
KOCR2100 Indigenous Australia (8 CP)
LNGS1002 Language and Social Context (6 CP)
SOFT1002...
You could always do the HSC through Open Training and Education Network, which is TAFE's distance education. You only have to physically attend a TAFE a couple of times a year. The only issue is the cost (it's $585 per year, unless you can claim an exemption like being on certain Centrelink...
BASICALLY (what loser said is more correct, but this is essentially the same thing) UAC look at your first preference. If you're over the cut-off, you're made an offer. If you don't make it in to your first preference, they look at your second preference to see if you're over the cut-off. If...
Just found http://www.cs.usyd.edu.au/current_ugrad/handbook2003/first/soft1001_spec.html which has a 'specification' for this unit. It doesn't mention maths (but it does specifically mention HSC SDD isn't needed.)
The unit description...
Would it be possible to do SOFT1001 without the assumed knowledge of HSC Maths Extension 1? How crucial to this unit of study is maths?
I know I'll need uni maths for later on in my computer science major, but I'll be doing that in second year. I can't do the ext 1 bridging course this year...
I don't. It will probably stay the same. These numbers haven't been individually fiddled with, so some will be off. The difference (0.30) is still within acceptable error though.
The four guesses here (explained above) are 99.30, 102.11, 102.64 and 99.30. We can obviously ignore 2 and 3...
Don't trust them so much if there's a big jump from 2002->2003, like there was with science (a jump of 8.05!) The four guesses that the spreadsheet came up with were 89.00, 82.32, 82.75 and 86.89 (the four guesses are then averaged and then a couple of other things are done to get a final...
At mic's request, I've plugged the UNSW UAI cut-offs into the spreadsheet I used for the USyd cut-offs and generated a guess at what the 2004 UNSW cut-offs will be.
Please remember, these are only guesses...
