If you want to become a lawyer, why wouldn't you consider other universities? With those marks you could study at G08 universities outside NSW and VIC. If you're that desperate, you could transfer in to Sydney or New South Wales if you do well in your first year.
I'm sure your dad is very proud of you for getting those internships he arranged for you. I find it very difficult to believe that you would have scored an IB internship before you've even started uni without connections. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just the way the world is, but don't...
This noob.
@ OP. The big draw for UTS is bundling the PLT into the law degree. This saves you time and money. Apparently, ANU is going down that road too. It's worth investigating. ANU has a nice campus and a good campus culture. If you have the money, and luck yourself into a Daley Road...
Yes. Law is an expensive degree. It's also a vocational degree. You pay more for the courses, and if you do a combined degree you use up two years of study where you could have been working. If you don't want to practise, the majority of jobs will be in compliance work, which is dreadfully...
Off the top of my head your options include:
- UN grad program (can be a little variable because they only recruit from certain member countries each year).
- Army (there is a potential to gain experience in international law, it really depends though. Army is the best option though, Air...
Don't let that fool you. Most Canberra offices of tier firms take on 0-1 grads each year through the official grad recruitment program. Many ANU grads end up in the public service. Just something to keep in mind. There are obviously quite a few smaller firms you can find work at while you're...
This isn't directed towards you OP, but more generally I think it's helpful to keep in mind the sunk cost fallacy. Considering how hard people work for their degrees, it's easy to get tunnel vision when you graduate, and feel alot of bitterness and disappointment if you miss out. Banging your...
Do you fit the criteria for the accommodation guarantee? If so, the university guarantees that you'll get lodging. http://www.anu.edu.au/study/accommodation/accommodation-guarantee
The rental market is very good in Canberra though if you're feeling up to searching gumtree or allhomes for shared...
You would be utterly insane to not go to UTS and take the scholarship. UTS also bundles their GDLP into their course which saves you money too. Law is unbelievably expensive, anything that offsets the cost is amazing.
Also, just for the record, I graduated a long time ago. I've done private and public, and I'm in legal recruitment now. Also becoming an accountant next year :(
Those advertisements on Seek would generally be chasing lawyers with 2 years PAE (post admission experience). Basically, when you graduate from law, you complete your GDLP (either through your employer if you get a graduate job or independently). That takes 6 months if you do it independently or...
I spent most of my time at uni drinking, playing MMOs and chasing girls. Graduated with a decent average in law. People tend to have different approaches to studying. There are people who are extremely thorough. This pays off for some people, other people just stress themselves out without...
It doesn't really make you less employable anyway. Let's pretend that top tier firms only recruit graduates from G08 universities. Even then, those jobs are only a small minority of jobs in the field. Don't write off your other options when you haven't even started studying yet!
