    Symmetry - dot plot graphs..

Choices would be something like (A) Positively Skewed (B) Negatively Skewed (C) Symmetrical (D) Bimodal (or some other stupid word) So if it's not exactly symmetrical, it would have to be A or B depending on the example.

    Symmetry - dot plot graphs..

I think symmetrical means symmetrical. Exactly symmetrical. If it's not symmetrical then it must be skewed in some direction. So if it's almost symmetrical then you can say that it's almost symmetrical and very slightly skewed in a positive direction (if that's the case).

    help - limits of accuracy!

Well, all your measurements were given in metres, so leave them in metres. Don't make life hard for yourself when you don't have to! The measurements were all done in metres to 1 decimal place, so that means that the precision of the instrument was correct to the nearest 0.1 m, so the absolute...

    help - limits of accuracy!

Each measurement is in metres and is given correct to 1 decimal place. This means the precision of each measurement is 0.1 m. The absolute error is always half the precision. Absolute error = 1/2 x 0.1 = 0.05 m (a) Maximium possible length = 10.2 + 0.05 = 10.25 m Minimum possible length = 10.2...

    Circle equations

    This is not really part of the General Maths course, so don't freak out guys. Question 1: Let r be the radius of the circle So its equation is: (x - r)2 + (y - r)2 = r2 Since the point (8,1) lies on the circumference, we have: (8 - r)2 + (1 - r)2 = r2 64 - 16r + r2 + 1 - 2r + r2 = r2 65 - 18r +...

    On line Study Group

In General Maths, it's pretty straightforward. Go into the Equation Mode [A], press [F3] for solver, and type in your equation. You can usually type it as you see it. Equations with fractions are a little more difficult. Just put brackets around the numerators and denominators. Then scroll down...

    Simple Interest Question i think

You'll have trouble with this question because if the amount is invested for only 7 months, then according to the table you'll only get interest at a rate of 2% p.a., not 3.5% p.a. Maybe the table isn't used at all. I = Prn = 75000 x 0.035 x 7/12 = $1531.25 .: Total amount on maturity =...

I would suggest that you work it out normally by hand. Show all steps as you usually would. But now you have the calculator as a way of making sure that your solution is the correct one.

    Area of an ellipse help?

Try and think about it as a circle. For a circle, the area is A = πr2, and r is the radius. Sometimes you're not given the radius, but you're given the diameter, so you have to divide that by 2 to get the radius. An ellipse is like a circle, except the radiuses are different length, so A = πab...

Should I drop down to general?... [Opinions Wanted]

You've probably answered your own question. If you're not willing to put in the work, then you're not going to go well whether you do 2 unit Maths or General Maths. Sure, you might get a better mark in General than 2 unit, but unless you get a Band 6 result (and a good one at that) it's not...

But if this is for PRIMARY school, will they be using algebra at all? Can we do it without algebra? If so and so gave away 1/5, 1/3 and 1/6 of the original amount, then ... 1/5 + 1/3 + 1/6 = 6/30 + 10/30 + 5/30 = 21/30 have been given away. That means that 9/30 of the original amount remain...

    There are various ways to solve these. Here's mine. Make both sides into single fractions, then cross multiply. a/3 = a/4 + 1/2 Find LCD in RHS (4). a/3 = a/4 + 2/4 a/3 = (a+2)/4 Cross multiply 4 x a = 3 x (a + 2) 4a = 3a + 6 a = 6
