the techniques in emma....
well for the novel...its the use of satire.. evidence of conversational speech...when the book was made the idea of conversational speech was not used it was all narrated.. ummm the tone of the novel is very satirical... The fact that Jane Austen satires everyone except the hard working men and women...this relates to context of the time as Jane Austens brothers were men in the war so she regards hard working honest people nicely...the use of punctuation, imagery, ...themes that are evident...such as charity, appearance...most of these themes are shown through conversation, structure tone and satire... remember , technique, quote and intended effect.
The devices used in films have a much broader base then those used in poems, so don't try to find them the same way that you find them in poems or short stories.
havent read the book yet
but judging from jane austen
one big technique is the usage of letters to move the plot as well as give a insight of each person
also the contrast between locations (eg. a poor house vs. a rich one), the contrast in characters etc.
