hey peeps...
well the pip due date is rapidly approaching us..as is the HSC.. im really unimpressed with the exam schedule as i have society and moderin in the same day

but newhoo... im struggling with my pip as it keeps on changing and evolving on me.. im wanting to do something with music and have pretty much settled on the power of music, lyrics V's technical stuff... only problem is now that i have settled on an idea i have absolutely NO idea where to go from here.. and my teacher really is no help..she is very intimidating and hard to ask for help and wen u do ask her she basically snaps at u for not knowing..so its a loose loose situation... plz help me as i feel as tho i m drowning in the deep pool that is society and culture..
agreed that a variety of methodologies is good. very important to work out with methodologies will be best for your topic and purpose. music is also a very popular topic, and VERY broad so maybe think about a way you can approach the topic differently to the way most other ppl choosing that subject matter might do- be daring! bounce ideas in the forum, if you are intimidated by your teacher.
work out a question or theory for your topic, not just a rough idea about music and what it means. i found it really helpful to write a draft, if not final draft, introduction to my PIP as I began to research and complete methodologies for my PIP. it gave me direction and something to focus on, so my PIP didn't wander off topic or become full of irrelevant stuff.
have a think about what your main ideas will be for your PIP and put them into chapter headings- this will also give direction and show what you need to get done.
e.g. if you decide on a topic along the lines of "the power of pop music to tweenagers" or something, think about chapters such as what kind of music they listen to (according to secondary research of top 40 charts or observation of listening to radio station, focus groups of that age group, etc), WHY they listen to that kind of music maybe (media analysis of music advertising on tv, radio, magazines, music video shows, pay tv), how it has influenced their socialisation and interaction in society (ie. peers, family, media, the main agents of socialisation).
it is always good to think about your topic on the basis of what CONCEPTS you can use within your PIP. can you abse your chapter headings on different concepts? can you fit concepts into EVERY methodology and explain how each methodology and each chapter, each element of you PIP, relates to becoming more socially and culturally literate?
we've had a good system at my school where we have small assessment tasks (worth about 5 marks each, there are about 3 or 4 of them) that are based on the progress of our PIP, so we've all actually been forced to make a lot of progress. remember it is worth 30% of your overall mark. make some effort and think long and hard.
good luck mate! keep posting if you need help with working out your actual topic.
