my teacher said we can and should, the other teacher said we cant at allAre we supposed to use personal pronouns e.g. 'I believe this text...' or 'provokes our inner consciousness" in Mod B essays?
No on the personal pronouns, that ruins the formality of your essay but 'our' and 'we [as the audience]' is perfectly fine. Use them sparingly though as too much of those as personal voice and the personal nature of a response is not entirely dependent on how much you can "make it about yourself" in the form of pronouns and still feels very informalAre we supposed to use personal pronouns e.g. 'I believe this text...' or 'provokes our inner consciousness" in Mod B essays?
Hi QNA!Are we supposed to use personal pronouns e.g. 'I believe this text...' or 'provokes our inner consciousness" in Mod B essays?
hmm i'm not entirely sureBTW, since we're on Mod B - would it be impressive and demonstrate extensive research / reading to reference a non-prescribed poem (talking about T.S. Eliot) when discussing a theme e.g sexuality, and referencing the hermaphrodite character Tiresias in Waste Land (non-prescribed)? Or would the teachers not care?
probably not, i'd just stick to the prescribed poems as it would be better to show your understanding of the oeuvre they assign as a wholeBTW, since we're on Mod B - would it be impressive and demonstrate extensive research / reading to reference a non-prescribed poem (talking about T.S. Eliot) when discussing a theme e.g sexuality, and referencing the hermaphrodite character Tiresias in Waste Land (non-prescribed)? Or would the teachers not care?
