I'm not sure if Linear Equations are part of the Ext.2 course but I would appreciate it if anyone in this forum could help me with the following questions.

1. Ernst Macdonald had a farm with cows and chickens. His animals had a total of 42 heads and 124 legs. Write down a system of linear equations connecting the number of cows and the number of chickens.

2. Tony has three different sized tables in his restaurant. The tables for two have a single leg in the centre, above which is a candle holder. The tables for four and six all have four legs, the former having one candle-holder and the latter two. If there are 17 tables, 44 legs and 21 candle holders in total, qrite down a set of liner equations connecting the numbers of each sort of table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Simultanous equations is in the course.

1. Let x=number of chicken, y=cows.
x+y=42
2x+4y=124
x=22, y=20

2. Let x=number of table for 2, y=table for 4, z=table for 6
x+y+z=17
x+4y+4z=44
x+y+2z=21
x=8, y=5, z=4
