Ive always thought it was CLEES-THI-NEES. similar to what magister said.

I thought Magister said it like CLYSE-THE-NEES, since she said it sounds like "eye". This is how I thought it was pronounced too.

haha i think magister more meant ud say KL-EYE-THIN-EES

which is right according to my uni professor last year in ancient histories and makes sense seeming the Greek source spelling is has it starting with a K

Re spelling of Kleisthenes

The way I suggested it ought to be pronounced is what all MY AH teachers taught me at Uni (we also had to learn Latin and some Greek!). It is what I subsequently have taught all my AH classes. In fact, I always give them guides to pronunctiation and spelling-it helps them to remain consistent with the ancient names and terminology. Hoping this settles this topic now.

u know what ive come to realise? there are ten million different ways of pronouncing names. So as long as it's similar and as long as YOU know the guy ur talking about, then don't stress too mcuh. Coz there's going to be many different opinions thrown at you.
