2 = 2^1
2^1 * 2^k = 2^1 +k according to index laws, and there's alrdy another 2^k+1 so then there's 2 of them

I don't understand.:cry: How is it that there becomes two on the LHS?
So first step is just distributing the 2 like normal right so it becomes
next step is merging the which im assuming is the step you dont get?
if you expand it out, it looks like
and now do you see that the total number of 2s multiplied by each other is k+1, thus it can be compacted to ?
this is the index law that

then you just collect like terms and then factorise out the 2 again
