Yes, they are and having dealt with university pathways into medicine, you're going to get brushed off a lot more times before you get the answers you want.
Out of interest, what did you actually ask the person about pathways into med?
Sometimes you think they're just rude or...
Haha me too! It's so perfect for the module...btw it's kinda freaky to see you here..in this forum which it seems noone really checks...stalker much? :P
I didn't do God of Small Things as additional material for RFTG but have read the book, what exactly are you interested in? What approach are you taking with it?
Also for an example on how to analyse an article in terms of RFTG syllabus, I've put up a new thread on sharing ideas and concepts...
Basically just supplementary readings that could help in understanding the topic.
Feel free to add to this forum and share ideas about the unit, it’s the best way to further your own understanding!!!
To start, I found this great essay in the SMH Spectrum 14-15 April 2007 pp 28 – 29, “The...
Haha I felt exactly the same way coming out of year 12, so I was like hmm I don't think I want to do undergrad med straight out of high school. I really wanted to do graduate med, dream would be USYD (hehe I can't help being biased in loving the place) but yeah any grad course. I should've just...
well yeah this is my 2nd attempt, after this I will also not try undergrad med again, it will just be slugging out the hard yards for grad med at USYD (if my dreams align themselves).
haha I like never check bored of studies, I think it was probably a lot longer than when i finished year 12 as I only discovered this at the end of my year 12 year and it was already up and running :P
Yes, I am? I didn't do any prep last year (my first attempt), so I'm going to try again *with* prep. Why, may I ask are you being so negative towards me doing it again?
Hmm everyone is so negative about icarus, *however* I've heard some pretty good feedback about the actual materials though. So the day course isn't worth going to?
I think the most difficult thing about RFTG is trying to distinguish your argument from everyone else's, and I think that primarily comes in when you choose original supplementary material and bulk up your essay with a bit of literary theory.
Don't worry I'm probably in a bit of a similar situation myself, if not worse. I know exactly how it feels to not get in and then wonder where exactly to go. I also didn't do the UMAT in year 12, because I didn't know that med was right for me and I knew if I committed to it, I'd do it. So now...
You don't have to link them ALL to RFTG, because realistically in the exam, you won't get time to talk about more than 2 or 3 stories (because of the depth you should go into). Otherwise, if there are specific stories that maybe you can list, so we can help you with those in particular?
Yes it is good for RFTG, but remember if you looking to distinguish yourself, as much as people say it depends on how you use it, Fight Club is still a really common choice as additional material. I don't know, up to you, but there is so much out there, it'd be good to have the chance to choose...

As an example of just typing the word "Samsara" into google and "Video Ezy" next to it. I live in western sydney, and I find the one in Wentworthville had it, it also plays heaps on SBS and World Movies channels, I saw it on...
When I say interpret the syllabus, I don't mean decide whether global or local is better, I mean interpret what it is actually asking you to do when you are analysing texts.
I'll give you an example (from memory):
eroding the barriers of time and space
Example: Heaney erodes the...
Haha, well it's so difficult to give "tips" becaust RFTG is a year's worth of discussion. I think you are better off asking specific questions or at least give us an idea of where you are going with the set texts so that maybe we have something to work with in terms of suggestions.
Other than...
