Hi, good luck for med! I don't think I'll be able to help you much, but I did 2u Mathematics for the HSC and got into Newcastle for med (Applied 2004, deferred for 05 so I start in a month!). From memory (my interview was over a year ago), school subjects weren't discussed or questioned at all...
According to the UNCLE website, the university information day is for Callaghan is Saturday
10 September. The School Visit Day is Thursday 30 June 2005 for Callaghan, which an information session about the medical degree in session three of the day.
i didn't realise how big a deal umat is when i was applying, so i did the only prep course my careers advisor knew about, which was the national institute of education one. it was ok. the only thing it really helped me improve was section three, which i am terrible at.
i don't think that it's nearly impossible to do it, and you don't really lose anything by trying. i thought it would be heaps harder than it was, even with the rural stream of application and didn't expect to get in. but that's just my opinion about my own experience. yes, i did have to write...
last year i would have said yes, but one prep course and sitting of umat was more than enough for me! but it worked and i'm headed for UNCLE next year. also, don't be discouraged and feel like you won't get in because you're from a country area, because the requirements are much lower. i come...
i got into med at newcastle. my uai was 93.85 , and i'm from a rural area so that was ok with the cutoff. my UMAT score was (as percentiles coz i don't remember the scores) S1- 88 S2- 99 S3- 58. i thought i bombed the interview as well cos they made me go and sit in the hallway when they had...
i feel so lucky now i've read this, cos i've been accepted as a rural student to UNSW with alright UMAT results and a 93.85 UAI. I feel unworthy of the place now!
I do both chem and ancient, and though they're both good, I find ancient more interesting. I think chem is harder, cos the information in ancient is easier to remember (I think anyway)
Yeah, it is weird. And lonely. But its good in some ways- I'm guaranteed first (though also last) place, and I get the whole history faculty helping me, and I get to have the assessments due when it suits me!
