I think you are getting confused with the 2007 cut-off.
in 2007 the combined degree's cut-off was 94.45 and 2006 was 93.15 according to my UAC guide.
This year (2008) it went down to 89.40
But at an average, its usually in the 94~ region as it had been in the past 8 years. :)

i'm just saying that attitude in general is why more people are turning to study at universities instead :)
At least it was for me as well, my parents would of been disappointed if i didn't choose to go to uni, not like I wasn't going to anyway :)
I think this sort of attitude (which is quiet common) is also another reason why nowadays people are turning to university to become designers, hence the 99.9 cut-off for uts design this year.
it's absolutely unfair, we worked hard to get here. It's a legalized bribery and some courses have cut-offs up to 10 points below the CSP/HECS, and that's LUDICROUS and UNFAIR for those who had to achieve that extra 10 marks so that they won't be a financial burden to their parents.
Thanks for those. It's a very interesting read.
The Business Week article definitely reassured me that I made the right decision on choosing a design degree. :)
I wonder if newspapers will publish another article like the above one about design degrees being higher in demand than science...
You can't draw this conclusion yet, I know plenty of people that were going for these degrees and most of them received extremely high uais (97~99 point somethings) and none of them needed this EAS thing. Hopefully at least one of them got in
I think some people have to of entered with...
ohhh. i see.
but would that allow them to publish the cut-off at 99.9?
I do know a friend of a friend who went to a private school in north, that received uai of 100 and is studying Design in Visual Communications at UTS.
I'm also curious about this. Who actually controls the cut-offs?
I always thought it's based on demand and popularity. Can universities manipulate cut-offs to increase their prestige?
At first I couldn't believe my eyes, and thought it was a typo.
99.9??? It's ridiculously HIGH.
I got into Interior Design / International Studies so I'm quiet happy with that.
I personally think it's due to the design industry becoming a mass knowledge due to reality tv shows like...
I got into INTERIOR DESIGN/ INTERNATIONAL STUDIES YAY!
btw WTF HAPPENED TO 609290 B Design Vis Comm BA Int Stds 99.90
99.9 ??????????????
THAT'S THE HIGHEST IN THE STATE EVEN HIGHER THAN LAW AT USYD.

Scaling only takes effect when you perform average or worse... and since you got in the 70s for all your subjects except for music, (band 4/70s is an average or below average band depending on the subject) you...
