What I did was pretty much prove sum to product formula and then used it. But seeing as it's not in the syllabus, how would someone do this within the confines of the 3U syllabus?

Can someone help me with parts d) and e)? The booklet that has this question says that d) is
x= (2R^2 g) / (2Rg-u^2)
and that e) is u=11200 m/s, but I have no idea on how to get to any of those answers
