It is the same sort of structure as an essay only it is oppinionated. Rather than arguing for & against. Your poit forth ur point of view.
That is the best way I can think of to explain how to write one.

With Wind in the Willows - you can also take it that the reader is on an imaginative journey - I mean animals talking - that is imaginative.
SO you can say it is the author/reader as well who go on the journey with toad.
And yes - I find it strange an animal having an animal as a pet...
