Am I strange if I say I enjoy this topic? My class is behind in it - 17 days until the trial and we're only up to Strategies..
Anywho, most of those syllabus points are foreign to me :/ :bomb:
At least I know now and not as I'm sitting the paper.
I'm BAAAAACK.
Notebook looks great, but ask the sales person how many returns of those units they get.
Make sure you get a good warranty - this is worth paying extra for.
Internet & Word Processing - $500-1000 computer.
Starcraft 2 (gaming) - $1500 to $4000.
:) I'm not joking, a friend of mine spent $4000+ on a gaming machine.
Blizzard haven't released the recommended requirements for Starcraft 2 yet.
Not really as I'm pretty sure the centrino wireless stuff is soldered onto the motherboard - but Intel's Draft N will either a) not work with final n, b) work with a driver update or c) work with a firmware update
b and c are most likely to happen, and even if it doesn't work you can just get...
Ok. I still reckon you'd be better off going with a G router + range extender or a really big antenna if that's a problem.
If you're going to go Draft-N try to find out if the dongle you buy actually works with Intel Draft-N as they may or may not be the same thing. There was also an article...
A network with a router is always going to be better than an ad-hoc network... but your choice. I pointed you to the N dongle, it's $130.
Edit: so you're going to need one dongle for the server, one for the computer. 2x$130 ;)
If you have a 802.11G router then you should match it with the same brand 802.11G USB dongle - because some of the brands support "Afterburner" and "XPress" and "AirPlusG" which are hacks to get more speed/range out of G.
802.11N isn't even a standard yet. That's what you get for being an early adopter.
You should be able to use a 802.11G dongle for now. The cheapest USB adaptor I can find is
OzDirect.com
WUSB300N 802.11N USB ADAPTER
6 Ratings $130.16
There's no guarantee that will work with your current...
Everything should be there...except for the 7.1 surround... laptops don't usually come with those. You'd be looking at http://www.soundblaster.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=204&product=9103 an external soundcard that plugs into USB, and they aren't cheap.
Hi,
I'm trying to make the BR wiki page a little better

but I suck at wikis and need some help to make the formatting right and add anything I missed - it was typed up out of what I remember :|

I have dealt with UMart and SecretNet and Computer World and I would say both SecretNet and Umart have the best customer service, and CW isn't too bad - except when you order from CW make sure you select the shop nearest to you, same with Umart.
Be careful! The Asus Lamborghini and the Acer Ferrari laptops are very highly priced and under powered - they're gimmicks...
Also try these shops:
