    Commerce/Law, major in accounting

Not that easily. When I did an internship at a Big 4, there was maybe 6 or 7 people in our group of around 120 that didnt have an accg degree and thats because they had done a course quite relevant to a particular area of the firm eg. actuarial studies --> working within actuarial. There were a...

Macquarie Uni Bach of Comm (accounting) compared to big 3?

Ive never heard USYD, UTS and UNSW collectively referred to as the Big 3 lol. Just go to whichever uni is closest. I go to Mac and have worked in Big 4 accounting. It doesnt make a difference really where you go from what I have seen out of those 4 unis.

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

I know clutz was 860 last year. I dont know about this year. I think that would be the lowest of the biggest 6.

    Commerce/Law, major in accounting

I would say just choose which course you are most interested - after all you will be doing it for up to 5 years. In terms of overlap, as you mentioned, tax is the biggest area. The Big 4 accounting firms love lawyers because tax work is in essence interpretation and application of tax law. All...

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

I'd be weary of Freehills on the basis that they had 62 summer clerks (in Sydney) last year and all but 3 got graduate offers. I would be worried about the backlog of grads and the competition for work in order to meet targets.

    Summer clerkships 2009/2010

Hey charlie_charlie Nice story, its great to hear another perspective on the whole process. I agree that people can get a little too swept up in the clerkship race - it seems like a prize/trophy to be sought rather than a means to a well-paid but time consuming job. I hope all those that miss...

Best Comm/LLB major, if you want to be a lawyer.

I am a Commerce (Accg) and Law student. The great benefit of this combination is that you can choose two very different and rewarding career paths once you have finished. Accounting majors are always in demand - its probably one of the only degrees where virtually every company is looking to...

    undergraduate combined law at ANU

I dont go to ANU but i can help you out there. B Commerce is generally a broad degree where you can choose to major in one or two fields whether they be finance, accounting, HR, economics, statistics etc etc. You should find out from ANU what majors you can elect to have with your commerce...

    Job prospects with Commerce/ Law

Probably best to get a careers guide. Law degree ---- lawyer Commerce degree ---- depends on ur major, but many options. Your job prospects will depend on ur marks and other experiences. Investment banks obviously look for people with an interest in finance ie. finance major, but also...

    KPMG Cadetship or UNSW COOP?

I agree. The essential question is whether you want to primarily work, with some uni on the side (cadetship) or do you want to do uni with some work in between (coop). If I had the choice I would go coop. That said a cadetship can be very rewarding if ur in a rush career-wise. I know two cadets...

    Law articled clerks laid off

I heard that in Sydney they told all of the incoming grads for this year to f-off. Also, i found out from speaking to one of their clerks this year, their clerkship program was rubbish. The firm didn't spend one cent on them on the social side eg. drink nights, lunches, christmas parties etc...
