I thought it sucked balls. It butchered the novel completely. Dramatically changed the ending into some sappy hollywood fairytale and completely neglected the truth message / story of the novel. They left out a whole freaking stackload of IMPORTANT - *****this is not a spoiler considering...

On a more serious note.... It is really hard to do the whole long distance thing (even though its not all that far away, but 4 hours is still a substantial effort). But if you're both really committed it could work out. Otherwise i would start thinking about having a friendship with this boy...
