speaking from experience, walking into a lecture late is fine, so long as you find a seat in a swift and quiet manner. it might also be worth noting that some lecturers also go up in arms about OH&S and forbid you from sitting in the stair aisles so finding an actual seat to sit on is paramount...

sleep early, wake up early and cram early in the morning right up to the minute before walking into the exam venue. i usually have my study notes on loose leaf paper to make for easy disposal as i'm walking in.
i usually just print off the lecture notes before hand and add in extra notes next to each powerpoint slide where i feel is necessary during the lecture. then in my own time i use the lecture notes in conjunction with a text book and write out a summary of the content.
